Nov – Feb
Cool season
The fog sea forms most mornings and burns off around eleven. Clearest air of the year, coldest nights, and the only season we are ever fully booked.
What the ridge looks like, what it is built from, and what else is worth stopping for once you have driven all the way up.
Two hectares of terraced garden on the south face, held together by dry-stone walls that were here long before the building was. Everything is walkable, but it is a hill — the terrace sits about forty metres above the car park.

The same view, three times a year. We are not going to pretend every month is the good month.

Nov – Feb
The fog sea forms most mornings and burns off around eleven. Clearest air of the year, coldest nights, and the only season we are ever fully booked.

Mar – May
Agricultural burning across the north can flatten the view to a pale haze in March and early April. We would rather tell you now than have you drive up for nothing — call ahead and we will describe what we can actually see.

Jun – Oct
Rain most afternoons, everything violently green, cloud moving through the terrace itself. Fewest visitors, best light, wettest shoes.
Six places we send people to, with honest drive times from our car park. None of them takes a whole day.

Coffee
The ridge that made Chiang Rai arabica famous. Several estates take visitors through picking and washing if you arrive before ten. Ours come from three growers up here.

Walk
A small white chedi on the next spur, reached by a twenty-minute walk from the road. Almost nobody is ever there. Go at first light and you will have the whole valley to yourself.

Water
Three drops through limestone into a cold pool you can swim in. Loud and full in the green season, quiet and clear by February. Wear something with grip.

Craft
An Akha women's cooperative working indigo and backstrap looms. They sell directly and will explain the dye process if you have half an hour. The linen on our tables comes from here.

Tea
Oolong terraces planted by Yunnanese settlers in the fifties, and the best noodle shops for thirty kilometres. Combine it with a late breakfast rather than a rushed stop.

View
Not a destination, just a gravel widening on the road below us that happens to face east over the whole valley. It is where our staff stop on the way up. No facilities, no sign, no coffee — bring ours.
